On 8 March 2010 − the International Women's Day − EIGE announced the launch of the Women Inspiring Europe initiative: Resource Pool and Calendar. Aiming to highlight the achievements of some of Europe’s most remarkable women and to promote their positive influence on breaking gender stereotypes, the Women Inspiring Europe Resource Pool and Calendar collect and present their real-life stories.
The Resource Pool is intended to offer the media and EIGE’s stakeholders the possibility to search for role-models, according to the desired field of expertise as to facilitate their speaker or expert interventions in media or to various meetings and events.
Among the women who have been nominated for the Resource Pool, 12 of the strongest profiles, from all EU countries, from every walk of life, have been selected and featured in the ‘Women Inspiring Europe’ Calendar. On this web-section of the Women Inspiring Europe Calendar, these 12 profiles are Monthly Profiles. Since the number of nominations that we have received goes far beyond, we have decided to portray the inspiring women we could contact as Weekly Profiles.
Gender equality is building its own history. It is rich of women that broke the gender boundaries and had their say in the male-dominated fields. They were the first women that had the courage and the oportunity to study, to work or to prove to the world that women are perfectly capable of reaching success. Thus, in the gender area of the Monthly Profile or of the same country origin, we have selected to present as Historical Profiles the inspiring women from the past.
The Women Inspiring Europe 2013 Calendar is the third under this initiative and, from 2014 onwards, the project will be portraying Women and Men Inspiring Europe.
