Amelia Valcárcel

In the seventies, Amelia Valcárcel was the only woman in her class studying Philosophy at University. She was also the second woman to be chosen as a Councillor in the State Council in Spain, the highest consultative body for the Spanish Government. Feminism in Spain is indebted to her unflinching dedication and continuous research on the meaning of gender equality. She is a philosopher of repute, and a much respected scholar. Her active participation in numerous fora (newspaper, television, books, conferences, seminars, etc.) make her a pivotal figure in contemporary debates on feminism. For instance: on gender and globalization, the challenges of feminism, and new inequalities.
