Additional notes and information

Older women workers are at a heightened risk of being vulnerable to multiple discriminations on grounds of sex and gender, age, and other characteristics such as ethnicity.

As women get older, age-based discrimination becomes harsher, and multiple discrimination structurally reduces their choices for work or working arrangements (e.g. a shift to part-time or informal work, or self-employment). These circumstances entail poorer working conditions and inadequate remuneration, making retirement insecure or not a viable choice.
