Additional notes and information
It has increasingly been referred to as ‘social reproduction’ to indicate that the term has a broader scope than simply the activities associated with biological reproduction. The fact that reproductive work is the essential basis of productive work is the principal argument for the economic importance of reproductive work. Most of it is undertaken primarily by women, and is unpaid and therefore unrecorded in national accounts.
