Female genital mutilation in a juridical perspective. Background study

Following the fact that the Netherlands did not have any prosecutions, some political parties in the Dutch 'Tweede Kamer' requested a more active prosecution policy, in which a more solid role should be given to criminal prosecution. The aim was to put in place an adequate control system, to enhance signalling, detection and enforcement. This background study is in preparation of the advice (see POL_08) and provides recommendations to enhance the juridical instruments, in particular the criminal instruments, in order to prevent and fight FGM.
