Volvo Trucks has run a leadership programme - Walk the Talk - for high-ranking men on gender, including masculinities, with the explicit objective of increasing the number of women in managerial positions. A Walk-the-Talk network of programme participants is maintained continuously. The programme has been evaluated and found to be effective compared to other companies not carrying out this type of work.
Key strategies to engage male leaders in the programme have been securing support and commitment from the senior leadership, showing how a lack of diversity threatens profitability, and making programme participants aware of their lack of knowledge and competence in how gender and power play out negatively in organisations and in working relationships.
