Marie-Anne Delahaut
Bringing women’s empowerment centre-stage into the new millennia!
Marie-Anne Delahaut is Director of research at the Destree Institute, and the Founder and Head of Millennia2015. She also serves as Head of the Information Society Unit and network administrator, at The Destree Institute, European Research Centre and NGO, in operational relations with UNESCO. Her background lies in education, and Marie-Anne Has achieved a Bachelor Education, and is a qualified teacher of French and of English.
Marie-Anne’s life work revolves around the need to promote gender equality. In 1987 she developed an expertise in ICT networks administration. These skills have been put to good use, and from 1989 Marie-Anne has been contributing to the development of the independent ICT network of the Destree Institute.
Marie-Anne continues to inspire with her drive and passion, as is amply reflected in her affiliation to many different women’s organisations. She is a member of the Belgian Association of Women Business owners; of the Commission on Women and Development of the Belgian Ministry of Development Cooperation; of the French-Speaking Women Council of Belgium; and also, of the European Center for Women and Technology. She was awarded the title of Outstanding Woman 2011 for, "her work and her action in favour of equal opportunities between women and men", from the Belgian Federal Deputy Prime Minister, in charge of Employment and Equal Opportunities.
She is a member of the Board of the Brussels-Area Node of the Millennium Project and director of publication of the French version of the "State of the Future" 2005 and 2006.
In 2007, Marie-Anne Delahaut has created Millennia2015 "Women actors of development for the global challenges". Built with the patronage of the UNESCO and the support of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Millennia2015 is a foresight research process developed by The Destree Institute and its international partners. With foresight as a method and the information society as context in solidarity, Millennia2015 acts for gender equality, women's empowerment and their full participation to political, economic and social decisions, complimentarily with men, in order to build fairer and more ethic futures at the horizon 2025. Millennia2015's process is structured through three international conferences: Liege in 2008, Paris, UNESCO, in 2012 and New York, United Nations, in 2015.
Millennia2015 thinks and acts for gender equality and women's empowerment. The respect of human's rights for women and girls, their full participation to political, economic and social decisions in cooperation with men, and, working together for the construction of more ethical and respectful futures. These Millennium Development Goals are closely aligned with those of the following: UNESCO, the World Summit on the Information Society, the UNESCO, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and, of course, UN Women. Millennia2015 examines issues of the future that will have a strong influence on women's life in the knowledge society in every country, and, their responsibilities with regards to their evolution at a global level.
