Aims and objectives
Coordination of women's and gender policies and gender mainstreaming issues. Activities are mainly focused on women, but objectives in relation to men include awareness raising in general, and improving gender equity by raising the take up of leave by male employees (including through means-tested child benefit, short-term leave with childcare benefit, Father's month). Cooperates with the Men's Policy Department at the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection (e.g. in joint campaigns on occupational choices, Girls Day/Boys Day, a joint project to support paternity leave with target group SMEs)

Father's month was also introduced in the civil service on 1 January 2011. Federal employees are now able to take an unpaid 'Father's Month' (the right to receive up to four weeks unpaid leave).
