New labour dynamics and the challenge of work-life balance

The article focuses the patterns of women’s employment, including working time flexibility and the high incidence of temporary work in Portugal, discussing the implications for women in terms of the organisation of their family life. The main argument is that flexible working time schedules not only have ambiguous (and even contradictory) effects on gender relations; they also originate difficulties in work-family life balance and reinforce social inequalities among women.
