Equality Strategy – Building a Fairer Britain
This document explains the equality strategy's emphasis on moving 'away from treating people as groups or 'equality strands'', and working with ‘employers, employees and wider society as an advocate for change, instead of dictating what the right approach should be through rules and regulations.’ It concerns equal opportunities, devolving power to people, transparency, supporting social action and embedding equality considerations into government policies and programmes. Its five priority areas are ‘early years, education and social mobility’, ‘a flexible labour market’, ‘opening up public services and empowering individuals and communities’, ‘changing culture and attitudes’ and ‘leading by example through transparency’.
