The aim of this Ph.D.-thesis is to illuminate the significance of gender in work life from the perspective that work life is one of the main arenas where gender is shaped. Assuming that opposing tendencies relating to the construction of gender, both in work and family life, the aim of the thesis to illuminate how gender - including gender specific conceptions and expectations - is created in three modern workplaces. And which options for action women and men are given – partly in work life, partly in the interplay between work and family life - in continuation of the gendered constructions.
