The motion introduces the issue by way of mentioning international figures on FGM and their being on of the forms of violence against women, which States committed to fight by signing the Beijing Platform in 1995. It mentions the fact that in the USA and Canada FGM have been declared illegal and that in the USA a woman from Ghana has been recognized the right to asylum as being at risk of FGM. Prevention, education and training, raising awareness, monitoring measures are recommended as well as the introduction of the right to asylum to women and their daughters coming from countries were FGM are not banned.
