FGM prevalence figures were applied to all migrant women in Germany originating from countries where FGM is being practiced according to UN organisations and the WHO (World Health Organisation). To estimate the migrant female population in Germany, data from the Federal Office of Statistics were included.

Prevalence data on FGM
Population of female migrants originating from countries where FGM is practiced: 57.735 according to the Federal Office of Statistics; number of women/girls who have most probably undergone FGM: 19.000; number of women/girls who are thought to be at risk of FGM: 4.000. Including unregistered migrants TDF estimates the number of women with FGM or threatened by FGM 30.000

Limitations of study
Study mostly refers to migrants from African countries, but not from Arab countries like Yemen and United Arab Emirates.
