Female Genital Mutilation - now an Irish problem
A journal article aimed at family doctors in Ireland. The article is based on presentations at an information day on FGM for health care professionals organised by AkiDwA in October 2008. The article discuses the work of AkiDwA in relation to FGM including figures for FGM prevalence in Ireland. Content from Dr Comfort Momoh's presentation on FGM and culture and health complications, including obstetric complications, as a result of FGM is outlined. The need for FGM specific legislation in Ireland according to AkiDwA and the Women’s Health Council and current FGM legislation in Britain is also discussed.
