Prosecution Statistics
Used as indicator
- Monitoring (trend data)
- Evaluation
Indicator of the CPS performance. Their purpose of monitoring these cases is to improve the outcomes – there has been a dramatic improvement in the situation since they have started monitoring the data, as they used to have low VAW prosecution rates. In 2007 they started to monitor rape cases, in 2008 the CPS reported on VAW cases in more detail: 74% had a successful outcome (i.e. convicted offender).

Quality assurance process
As part of the Core Quality Standard Monitoring (CQSM), a specific qualitative VAWG Assurance system was set up in January 2011, with local Areas through which Areas provide an assurance of their overall VAWG performance, including detailed assessment of domestic violence, rape and sexual offence prosecutions, on a six monthly basis to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Areas receive feedback on their assurance reports from the VAWG team and the DPP and are required to draw up three action points following each bi-annual assessment. The assurance process also includes a requirement to conduct a more detailed assessment of approximately 25% of rape cases. Moreover within the 13 local areas, monthly assessments take place with the senior management team.

Current developments
They are already monitoring the relationship between victim-offender, but this data is not robust enough as it currently stands, to be used statistically. If this will be more robust in the future it might show in the statistics as well. However this is unlikely to happen due to government financing cuts. This is also the case for disabilities and religion/beliefs of victim and offender.
