There is a reference group with representatives from the women's shelters. The database is reported to Danish Data Protection Agency. The collection of data is done in line with the Act on Data Protection. Sensitive personal information is protected and locked. Shelter staff doing interviews are educated through job training and an annual meeting. Staff involved are instructed in confidentiality.

Current developments
The database has in recent years been improved. It has been decided to collect some basic data every year whereas other data are collected on a thematic basis. A reference group with representatives from the women's shelters are taking part in defining new themes and questions each year. Questionnaires have been made electronic. Data on shelters for men have been added to the database.
