The report provides an analysis of methodological options on the cost of gender-based violence and intimate partner violence, by studying different literatures and studies, and provides recommendations. It includes a case study on the cost of intimate partner violence against women in the UK during 2012 and provides a calculation of the costs in the EU. Read more Gender-based violence
This study sought to identify and recommend appropriate methodologies to measure the cost of gender-based and intimate partner violence in the 28 EU Member States. Three main types of costs were identified: lost economic output, provision of services, including health, legal, social and specialised; and the personal (physical and emotional) impact on the victim. The report describes the methodologies in each of these fields found in the relevant literature. It then examines their feasibility in relation to the availability of data sources, using a UK case study to illustrate the recommended methods.
