Cooperation with EU candidate countries and potential candidates
This webpage provides information about EIGE’s cooperation with the EU candidate countries and potential candidates.
Under the European Commission’s Instrument of Pre-Accession (IPA), EIGE’s main objective is to support the Western Balkans and Türkiye to improve their gender equality policies and to better monitor gender equality progress.
EIGE’s Director Carlien Scheele gave an online address for the ‘Women, Peace and Security: Building Alliances for Sustainable Peace’ Forum held on 22-23 October 2022 in Prishtina, Kosovo, hosted by the President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani.
As a part of the EIGE Gender Equality Forum 2022, gender equality players from the IPA region gathered to discuss the situation of women in business and women’s leadership, data on gender balance in economic decision-making and Gender Equality Index scores in the region.
The third Gender Equality Index for the Republic of Serbia is based on data from 2018, amounts to 58.0 points, and indicates continuous, albeit slow progress in improving gender equality.
The EU supports EU candidates and potential candidates on their path to join the European Union. EIGE contributes to this process by helping responsible authorities in their efforts to improve gender equality in the Western Balkans and Türkiye in line with EU policies.
Since 2013, EIGE has been providing expertise and technical assistance on a diverse range of gender-related topics. These include the development of monitoring methods and tools used in the EU, such as EIGE’s Gender Equality Index and the Gender Statistics Database. Special attention is given to regional cooperation and the exchange of gender equality related practices.
