This webpage provides information about EIGE’s cooperation with the EU candidate countries and potential candidates.
Under the European Commission’s Instrument of Pre-Accession (IPA), EIGE’s main objective is to support the Western Balkans and Turkey to improve their gender equality policies and to better monitor gender equality progress.

Albania launched their first national Gender Equality Index. This EU candidate country achieved a score of 60.4 out of 100 - just 7 points below the 2019 EU average of 67.4.

Montenegro launched their first national Gender Equality Index. This EU candidate country achieved a score of 55 out of 100 and sits below the 2019 EU average of 67.4.
The EU supports EU candidates and potential candidates on their path to join the European Union. EIGE contributes to this process by helping responsible authorities in their efforts to improve gender equality in the Western Balkans and Turkey in line with EU policies.
Since 2013, EIGE has been providing expertise and technical assistance on a diverse range of gender-related topics. These include the development of monitoring methods and tools used in the EU, such as EIGE’s Gender Equality Index and the Gender Statistics Database. Special attention is given to regional cooperation and the exchange of gender equality related practices.
