Under the European Commission’s Instrument of Pre-Accession (IPA), EIGE’s main objective is to support the Western Balkans and Türkiye to improve their gender equality policies and to better monitor gender equality progress.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the fifth EU candidate country to have made pivotal steps in development of Gender Equality Index. The report presents full scores for domains of Knowledge and Power, and partial scores for domains of Work and Health.

Over 400 terms of EIGE’s Glossary and Thesaurus are now available in four languages of EU candidate countries and potential candidates: Albanian, Bosnian, Macedonian and Serbian (in Latin and Cyrillic alphabet for Serbia as well as for Bosnia and Herzegovina).
The EU supports EU candidates and potential candidates on their path to join the European Union. EIGE contributes to this process by helping responsible authorities in their efforts to improve gender equality in the Western Balkans and Türkiye in line with EU policies.
Since 2013, EIGE has been providing expertise and technical assistance on a diverse range of gender-related topics. These include the development of monitoring methods and tools used in the EU, such as EIGE’s Gender Equality Index and the Gender Statistics Database. Special attention is given to regional cooperation and the exchange of gender equality related practices.
