Treatment and representation of women in the TV series broadcast by nation-wide TV channels
Tratamiento y representación de las Mujeres en las teleseries emitidas por las cadenas de TV de ámbito nacional
It performed a content analysis on a sample of 3 episodes of the 9 domestic and international series with more audience. It includes interviews with media professionals and a survey to the general public. Both the message and the transmitter were analyzed. The conclusion was: reality is still sexist but the audience has no awareness, confusing between what is identified as ‘usual’ and ‘natural’. The characters of the TV series still attributes sexist roles and relationships including traditional patterns. The audience (no significant differences by gender or age) identifies discriminatory elements but it does not evaluate the series as sexist.
