Gender violence portrayal in the news on TV
Representación de la violencia de género en los informativos de TVE
It analyzes the content of 71 GBV news issued in public TV. Some conclusions are: GBV is a crime that violates human rights. Journalists must avoid sensationalism; use appropriate language and reliable sources; accompany the new of experts explanation of the phenomenon and useful information (resources, etc.); not provide identifying information of the victim or the perpetrator; avoid "double victimization". The numbers of dead are just the tip of the iceberg. Violence has no explanation as crime of passion, or due to alcohol or other drugs. It iss a good vehicle to generate social rejection against aggressors.
