The author argues that the goal of a substantial increase of female participation in the labour market and equal participation at work cannot be achieved unless people are facilitated in balancing their demanding and conflicting roles. The promotion of effective reconciliation policies requires understanding but also surpassing the limitations imposed by the enterprise's narrow interests, institutional restrains and social perceptions.
