Aims and objectives
The Welsh Government has undertaken a range of Equality Impact Assessments regarding various topics, including gender, domestic violence, women's rights and sexual and reproductive health. These assessments are tools to be used in evidence-based policy making, assisting public authorities in fully understanding the relevance and effect of policies and in identifying the most proportionate and effective responses. Delivery of public services depends on an understanding of the diverse communities to be served, and taking account of diverse needs.

In November 2012, the Welsh government published the 'Ending Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) White Paper Consultation – Equality Impact Assessment', concerning proposed legislation to help Wales take significant steps forward in achieving the aim of ending violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence. The White Paper consultation outlines the policy and legislative proposals aimed at these ends, with proposals focusing on three specific areas: improving leadership and accountability; improving education and awareness; and strengthening services in Wales. A 2010 equality impact assessment was also conducted on Sexual Health & Wellbeing for Wales, which made particular reference to reducing the number of unintended pregnancies, particularly amongst teenage girls.
