Treatment of complaints about discrimination and stereotyping in the media
Everyone who has been directly affected by a specific journalistic behaviour (article, interview, research...), can introduce a complaint at the Council. An ombudsman will investigate the case and publish a decision if a settlement cannot be reached between the journalist and person who files a complaint. In its decision, the Council will establish if the behaviour was according journalistic ethics or not.

Aims and objectives
- To allow anyone who has been directly negatively affected by a specific journalistic behaviour (article, interview, research), to introduce a complaint at the Journalist Council
Results and impact
An annual report illustrates the outcomes of the cases presented to the Council. They are also publicly announced on the website of the organisation. In 2012, the complaints by and large entailed the violation of privacy. On gender, there was a significant complaint from the Institute for Equality on the description of women by the Metro newspaper, which was not grounded by the Council.
