Awareness raising concerning the fact that in German language we have the so-called “generic masculine”, that means the masculine form is used as the general form for both genders. Providing gender-neutral and gender-specific terms and formulations in German language.

Varois guidelines show how to use gender-neutral language. It provides examples of gender-neutral phrasing, alternatives for words that could be interpreted as gender-biased or discriminatory. is a recommendation of the working group “Gender Mainstreaming” of Lower Austria's regional government authority. It gives an overview how gender-equatable phrasing works. The emphasis in on creative formulations for “language of government”, that includes both sexes equally, but is still understandable.
