Study commissioned by Ministry of Health (VWS), and will be performed in collaboration with Erasmus University Rotterdam
Estimations of incidence and prevalence of FGM, based on statistical calculations. These calculations are based on data found in a systematic review from DHS, MICS and population data that are available from Dutch Central Statistical Office. Information on social norms and behavioural change in a migration context will be collected to provide insights in future incidence. It is planned to do this among 5 different groups living in the Netherlands (most probably Somali, Ghanaian, Egyptian, Ethiopian/Eritrean, and a group from West African origin, perhaps Sierra Leone or Liberia). Finally, information on health care needs of circumcised women living in the Netherlands will be collected.
