The committee poses a question to the Minister of Interior Affairs and Health regarding legislation on circumcision, inquiring into whether it should be changed so that it would be impossible for young girls under 18 to get circumcised for cosmetic reasons. The Minister responds that the law reads as follows: the person who performs circumcision can get a penalty for up to 6 years, unless the circumcision is performed on medical causes (physical or mental). Therefore he sees no reason to change the legislation.
