Practice Standards for Midwives
These Practice Standards for Midwives came into force on the 1st July 2010 and set out the standards of midwifery care which An Bord Altranais would expect from someone who practises as a registered midwife in Ireland. The Practice Standards for Midwives, An Bord Altranais has two main objectives:
1. To set out the standards of midwifery care which would be expected from someone who practises as a midwife in Ireland.
2. To ensure that Registered Midwives are aware of the legislation and guidelines defining their role and describing their scope of practice.
At the conclusion of each standard there is an up to date and most comprehensive list of sources of further information which midwives will find most useful. Contact details are available for State Agencies, Irish health agencies, professional midwifery organisations and patient support groups.
