In 2013, EIGE launched the Gender Equality Index - a unique measurement tool that synthesises the complexity of gender equality as a multi-dimensional concept into a user-friendly and easily interpretable measure. The results obtained show that the domain of power highlights the biggest gender gaps, with an average score of only 38.0 at EU level. The wide differences in the proportion of women and men in decision-making across the EU27 is a strong call for the improvement of policy and decisive action, such as the introduction of quota systems, initiated by the European Commission in 2012.

Considering that the domain of power has the biggest gender gap despite all efforts made by various political organisations, NGOs, activists, academics, journalists, we have decided to our members of EIGE's Women and Men Inspiring Europe Resource - Pool that are experts in the area of power and decision-making to discuss their views. Our special guests have developed and led a range of initiatives to improve the position of women in the area of power and decision-making. Their experience varies from supporting women candidates to running information campaigns, passing bills on quotas or successfully running for offices. We are looking forward to finding out more about their real-life experiences.

Thus, the 6th and 7th of March, we invite you to engage in a dialogue with the members of EIGE's Women and Men Inspiring Europe Resource - Pool:
  • Oana Băluță (RO), Lecturer, Faculty of Journalism and Communications Sciences
  • Jana Smiggels Kavková (CZ), Executive Director, Forum 50 %
  • Lazar Lazarov (BG), Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Policy
  • Małgorzata Fuszara (PL), Director of the Institute of Applied Social Sciences, Warsaw University
  • Marleen Temmerman (BE), Director, World Health Organisation,
  • Isabella Lenarduzzi (BE), Founder of Forum JUMP and JUMP Academy
  • Cristina Gallach (ES), Head of Public Relations, Council of the European Union

This event will examine challenges women face accessing decision-making positions, both at political and economic level. It will explore the actions being taken to diminish these barriers faced by those promoting women in power positions and a more balanced decision-making.

We are inviting you to engage in the dialogue and listen to what they have to say!

Note: You will be able to see the actual online discussion page and post your comment only on 6 March, starting with 10.00 am CET. You can access it then by clicking ' View More'.
