Power and Decision-Making Online Discussion

In 2013, EIGE launched the Gender Equality Index - a unique measurement tool that synthesises the complexity of gender equality as a multi-dimensional concept into a user-friendly and easily interpretable measure. The results obtained show that the domain of power highlights the biggest gender gaps, with an average score of only 38.0 at EU level. The wide differences in the proportion of women and men in decision-­making across the EU­27 is a strong call for the improvement of policy and decisive action, such as the introduction of quota systems, initiated by the European Commission in 2012.

Considering that the domain of power has the biggest gender gap despite all efforts made by various political organisations, NGOs, activists, academics, journalists, we have decided to our members of EIGE's Women and Men Inspiring Europe Resource - Pool that are experts in the area of power and decision-making to discuss their views. Our special guests have developed and led a range of initiatives to improve the position of women in the area of power and decision-making. Their experience varies from supporting women candidates to running information campaigns, passing bills on quotas or successfully running for offices. We are looking forward to finding out more about their real-life experiences.

This event will examine challenges women face accessing decision-making positions, both at political and economic level. It will explore the actions being taken to diminish these barriers faced by those promoting women in power positions and a more balanced decision-making.
