During the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) negotiations, equality between women and men was agreed as a Horizontal Principle of the Budget. The Commission has committed to develop a methodology to measure gender relevant expenditure at programme level in the MFF 2021-2027, to be implemented as soon as available and no later than 1st January 2023. A new gender expenditure methodology has been developed and was applied for the first time in the context of the 2023 budget adoption procedure.

EIGE’s Helena Morais Maceira, Team leader Gender Mainstreaming, will speak at a Hearing organised by the S&D Group in European Parliament to discuss how the methodology was developed including the constraints and challenges faced under the MFF 2021-202 as well as lessons learnt for the post-2027 MFF proposal.
