The European Community of Practice on Gender Mainstreaming (Gender-CoP) and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), Germany, would like to invite you to the Expert Conference “Gender Budgeting in the ESF – Opportunities, Examples and Limits” in Berlin on September 27, 2012.

Equality between women and men has gained in importance in the Structural Funds, and in particular in the European Social Fund, following the mandatory implementation of the Gender Mainstreaming strategy and specific actions over the last three programming periods.

Gender Budgeting is a central approach in order to support the implementation of the Gender Mainstreaming strategy within the Structural Funds. The interest in implementing Gender Budgeting in the structural fund programming period 2014+ has increased, and Member States have started to create framework conditions for the implementation of the Gender Budgeting approach. However, there are still very few approaches to Gender Budgeting Strategies in the structural policy by EU institutions, Member States or Regions.  In order to enhance the use of Gender Budgeting in the Structural Funds, this conference aims to:

  • Highlighting Gender Budgeting as good practice and as a useful and feasible approach to support the Gender Mainstreaming strategy within the ESF
  • Promoting the transfer of experience and results of the Gender Budgeting strategy in the ESF in the Member States and Regions of the EU
  • Elaborate recommendations for the implementation of Gender Budgeting for the structural fund programming period 2014+.

Within the framework of the Expert Conference the debates will focus on the experience already gained with the Gender Budgeting strategy in the ESF as well as on approaches going beyond the ESF; joint recommendations will also be elaborated for the implementation of the strategy during the next structural fund programming period.
