The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (FAO REU) with the support of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) are convening a high level conference, to provide an interactive platform to promote partnerships and joint learning for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030.

The conference, by providing a platform for exchange of best practices in gender equality and rural development, will help in raising awareness, reinforcing commitments and strengthening capacities of stakeholders, particularly from the ministries of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, in addressing gender concerns in achieving sustainable agriculture and rural development, food security and nutrition goals.

The conference will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania, in the premises of the EIGE, on 30th January, followed by the technical meetings on 31 January – 1st February 2017.

More information on the policy area 'Agriculture and rural development' - including policy objectives at the EU and international level, issues of gender inequality in the policy area as well as good practices - can be found in EIGE's Gender Mainstreaming Platform here.
