The consultation meeting on data collection: administrative data sources and future needs for data collection that will take place on the 19-20 March in Vilnius.

Committed to support ongoing work across the EU to address and combat GBV, the European Institute for Gender Equality notes that evidence in the form of comparable and harmonised data is crucial for informed decision-making in this area. It is therefore necessary to map existing data sources, concepts and methodologies developed in the Member States. As the first step, EIGE is ready to share the results of the study “mapping the current status and potential of administrative sources of data on gender-based violence in the EU” (the database of administrative data sources on GBV in EU-28 and the website).

The aim of the meeting is to present the ongoing and recently finalised  studies by EIGE and to initiate the discussion on the different methodological approaches to data collection and identifying the steps necessary to gather comparable data on GBV across all 28 Member States, especially focusing on data collection as called for by the Victims Directive.

The experts are invited to contribute to the discussion with their opinions and knowledge and collaborate in the identified future steps for reaching the important target of gathering comparable data across the EU on GBV.
