The event will explore how the Covid-19 crisis has impacted gender inequalities in the labour market, unpaid care and gender-based violence in Europe. The pandemic has changed the way we live day-to-day, but it is equally important to understand the long-term consequences for both women and men. Only then can we design effective policies to address the new challenges brought by the Covid-19 crisis – as well as the old challenges that went unnoticed prior to the pandemic.

We will examine the agenda of the current German EU Council Presidency, as well as of the incoming Portuguese Presidency. We will look at action taken by the EU institutions, as well as by the EU and Council of Europe Member States, to answer the gender-related challenges brought to light by the pandemic. We will also discuss how we can work together to fight inequality in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis.
