APRIL 2015: High-level Forum on the Future of Gender Equality

Projections estimate that, at the current rate of change, it will take almost 30 years to reach the EU’s target of 75% of women in employment, over 70 years to make equal pay a reality, over 20 years to achieve gender balance on the boards of Europe’s largest publicly listed companies and almost 40 years to ensure that housework is equally shared between women and men.

To find out how we can achieve a gender equal society faster and more effectively, the European Commission's Directorate-General Justice, under the auspices of Ms Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, is organising a high-level Forum on the future of gender equality on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April 2015 in Brussels, Belgium.

As the current Strategy on equality between women and men 2010-2015 is slowly coming to an end, the European Commission will be inviting key stakeholders from around the EU to help shape the future policies on equality between women and men. The Forum will be an essential building block of the next Strategy, helping to define challenges, develop concrete commitments, actions and timelines on how to close the remaining gender gaps in pay, labour market participation, pensions and power; fight all forms of violence against women and address new challenges to gender equality.
