Women in economic decision-making in the Western Balkans and Türkiye

As a part of the first-ever EIGE Gender Equality Forum 2022, we gathered representatives from the governments, EU delegations and civil society from the EU candidate countries and potential candidates.

The closed session of the Forum was dedicated to more equal economic decision-making in the Western Balkans and Türkiye. We discussed the situation of women in business and women’s leadership, data on gender balance in economic decision-making and Gender Equality Index scores in the region.

Participants also exchanged their individual #3StepsForward towards a stronger and more inclusive economy.

More than 50 participants took part in Brussels and joined online from the region, European Commission, and other international organisations, including UN Development Programme, UN WOMEN, Regional Cooperation Council and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

This was already the 14th meeting of the established EIGE’s Regional Coordination Platform for Gender Equality Action in the Western Balkans and Türkiye, organised under the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and funded by the European Commission.
