Description

Ahead of the 2024 European Parliament elections, EIGE is resuming its work on Gender-sensitive parliaments.

The project aims to support parliaments to better deliver on gender equality by providing: 1) evidence on trends in gender equality and gender sensitivity of the European Parliament and national parliaments in the EU; and 2) practical tool on gender equality action plans for parliaments to help plan and monitor progress towards transformative change for gender equality.

Based on EIGE’s Gender-sensitive Parliaments tool and following EIGE’s 2019 assessment of gender equality in national parliaments across the EU and the European Parliament, in 2023 EIGE will collect EU-wide publicly available data and assess trends in gender equality and gender sensitivity of the European Parliament and national parliaments in the EU through the analysis of the presence, role and positions of women and men across the elected bodies.

Drawing on the findings of the 2023 assessment, EIGE will develop an evidence-based gender equality action plan tool for parliaments and accompanying brief on gender equality action plans, as key tools for mainstreaming a gender perspective into institutional structures and supporting equal representation of women and men in variety of institutions and decision-making positions, including in parliaments.

The project’s outputs will be available in EIGE’s gender mainstreaming platform in 2024.
