Description

The report presents an overview of female genital mutilation in EU Member States through prevalence data, policy and legal frameworks, and the work/approaches of organisations working in the area of female genital mutilation. Some Member States have seen an increase in this form of gender-based violence alongside increased migration from countries where female genital mutilation is practiced. The report summarises the gaps in data collection on female genital mutilation across Europe, as well as the lack of information which prevents at-risk girls from being identified. It also gathers together methods, tools and good practices to support the development of strategies to combat female genital mutilation in the EU.
