The 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action presented an opportunity to assess the progress of gender equality in the five years since the previous review. This was the fourth review of the overall development at the EU level in relation to the 12 critical areas of concern of the BPfA.
The review assessed the main trends, progress and major challenges in gender equality in the EU, building on the EU‑wide data and review of existing Beijing indicators, Council Conclusions on the follow up of the BPfA since 2010 and an analysis of national reviews provided by the Member States to the UNECE in 2014.
The 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action represents an opportunity to assess the progress made by the EU in the area of gender equality since the last review five years previously.
