Gender Equality Act aims to guarantee equal treatment for men and women and to foster gender equality mainstreaming in all spheres of social life. The act also provides the means to combat sexual discrimination both in private and public sectors and has created the instrument to demand compensation in case the person’s rights are violated. The Act permeates all administrative levels in terms of applying a gender mainstreaming strategy. In addition, educational and research institutions and employers are obliged to foster equal treatment of women and men. The Act founded also the institution of the Gender Equality Commissioner.
